The U3A Financial Forum

The Financial Forum is designed to allow members to take better control of their own finances. It  offers members the opportunity to explore the world of personal finance in a relaxed and unpressured environment, such that individual members will be able to understand the

  • Interaction between their life ambitions and their finances
  • Different risks and rewards for different investments.
  • Risks of different currencies
  • Principles of personal taxation as it affects them in Spain and UK

so that they can develop their own personal financial plans.

The Financial Forum is especially for members who have no financial training or background, and especially those members who are interested in having a light shone on topics of which they have an instinctive fear. The Forum will seek to banish those fears and enable members to face their finances confidently.

The precise agenda for each meeting will be set in advance, but the selection of the order of topics will be dictated by the demands of members. So far, the list of topics to be addressed includes-

  • World Economics and its impact on personal finances
  • Assets Allocation – what should you be investing in?
  • Inflation and Deflation - what are they and what can be done about them?
  • Currencies – to be or not to be in Sterling, or Euros, or Dollars, or what?
  • Personal Taxation in Spain
  • What are bonds and how do they work?
  • Is Private Health Insurance worth it?
  • How do I keep track of my finances?

The next meeting of the Financial Forum is due to be held in Lliber on Monday 26th April at 10.30 in the morning. It will last no longer than 2 hours. The topic will be sterling investment in the light of the forthcoming General Election in UK.
