Christmas General Assembly 2021
The Vall del Pop U3A continued their early season Christmas celebrations with a Christmas themed General assembly last Thursday 2nd December. The business side of the GA was quickly dispensed with so that the partying could begin.
As we all gathered at the start Bill White serenaded us with classic tunes from his keyboard, and later he accompanied the members in their singing of Christmas songs and the U3A anthem. The Polivalent in Murla was lined with stalls, for games and sales, whilst in the centre the table where laid out for us to enjoy our Christmas snacks and mulled wine.
We were offered useful Christmas gifts from the Yarn & Thread group, Christmas table decorations and book stalls and we could test our skills on Spin the Wheel, Guess the Weight of the Christmas Cake, Guess the Number of Sweets in the Bottle and in picking the wrapped bottle to find wine or water. The competitions continued with a good number of entries for the Christmas hat competition and for the best decorated Christmas cake with Father Christmas picking the winners – Mary Stevens and Sally Ellis respectively.
Jacintha and her keep fit team gave us a demonstration, to jog our memories that we should address our fitness in the New Year, and the newest group, ‘Singing for Fun’, lead us in the singing of Christmas songs and carols.
The celebrations concluded with a draw to select the three charities which would receive funding from the Goodwill Teams charity fund at the AGM in March 2022. We had three categories for Animal, Medical and Care with 5 charities in each bags.
Various members then selected:
- Jalon Valley Arc,
- Make a Smile,
- Help of Marina Alta.
to be the recipients to share the funds.
After leaving our Christmas party Father Christmas went to Murla school to give sweets and Christmas greetings to all the children from the U3A.
On behalf of U3A Vall del Pop we wish everybody a very happy and safe Christmas.
