What a fabulous Valentine´s night was enjoyed at Pepe´s with the brilliant Steve Marks entertaining us.
Despite the blustery weather of the previous few days, almost 70 members came to eat, drink, dance and sing and the room was full.
Pepe´s served up their famous pies, which are not for the faint hearted, moussaka, roast pork and vegetarian lasagne, and after we had eaten Neil Diamond took to the stage with a 45 minute session of well known favourites including, of course, Sweet Caroline. A real trip down memory lane and a chance to sing along and lots of waving of hands in the air.
After a brief break during which ice creams were served, Tom Jones appeared for another 45 minute set of favourites. Gordon Sim joined Steve for an enthusiastic rendition of ¨Sex bomb¨ (don´t give up the day job, Gordon!) and Sue Holley duetted with him on ¨You don’t bring me flowers any more¨. What good sports!
After another brief break Elvis was in the building for a final 45 minute set and lots of people took to the dance floor.
Marian White kindly organised the raffle, the proceeds of which go to the Goodwill charity fund, and raised over 260 euros, and Paul Corazzo assisted with technical support. Thank you to both. Sally Ellis and the Goodwill team had decorated the room with super decorations, mostly handmade by Sally. She really is very talented and creative.
It was great to see so many people had entered into the spirit of the 60/70/80s theme and dressed up in brilliant costumes. Prizes were awarded to David and Anita Moran and Steve and Gill Bingham who were almost unrecognisable as hippies complete with wigs and flares!
Steve is a fabulous entertainer with lots of fun and audience participation and a super night was had by all. We are very grateful to him and to Pepe´s and the Goodwill team for all their hard work and support.
