On Saturday 11th February members of the U3A Vall del Pop and the Goodwill team, as well as members of the public, were delighted to attend a wonderful concert by Caprice, a choir of very talented ladies, at the former Black Apple in Jalon in aid of the Goodwill fund. We were entertained for two hours with a wide range of popular songs from an original version of Auld Lang Syne accompanied by the flute to jazz/swing, 1950s/60s sounds right through to modern day. Many of the songs had us wanting to sing along, including a fun Abba medley.
The U3A Vall del Pop Goodwill Team raised more than €6,000 through their events, which in December they decided would be distributed to seven local charities. This year, rather than donating cash to the charity’s overall funding pot, the Team thought it would be better to donate something specific which they urgently needed so that all our members who have so generously contributed throughout the year would be able to see specific benefits for each selected charity.
With all the seasonal festivities of last year now completed, the U3A Vall Del Pop Ladies resumed their monthly lunch dates on Thursday 19th January. A bit of a change this month as we temporarily changed to a Thursday rather than the third Tuesday of the month.
At the Vall del Pop U3A’s General Assembly on 12th January our members were given an insight to Freemasonry by Frank H Wallace, supported by Robin TillBrook and Malcolm March, who are all members of the Grand Lodge of Spain.
Day 1
T’was just before Christmas and the day dawned bright with 45 brave souls, Vall de Pop U3A members, gathered at 10:00am in the car park in Xalo ready for their Christmas trip to Peniscola.
Our first stop was the beautiful city of Valencia, what a wonderful city full of great architecture in the modern style. After a brief lunch it was back on the coach and off to the hotel in Peniscola.
We arrived at the hotel and booked in, then down to the bar for a quick drink before dinner. A buffet meal with copious amounts of wine I seem to recall, and the modus operendi for the holiday had been set!!!
Then back to the bar to join in the entertainment with the rest of the crowd.
''Twas the week before Christmas"........ when 30 members of the U3A Vall del Pop Let's Sing Together singing group and partners got together at the Black Flame in Pedregeur for a pre-Christmas celebration and a great time was had by all.
