Normality Returns

On October 7th our General Assembly will be held once again back at the Polivalent , Murla. Doors open at 10:00am and after the Association business John Hopwood will talk about “The history of Woolworths and their family”.

As a brief introduction I would outline that Frank Winfield Woolworth had humble beginnings, being born on a small farm in Watertown New York State. He opened his first store in the US in 1879 and 33 years later Woolworths was incorporated, raising 65 million dollars – in today’s money 1.75 billion - half of that went to Frank. In 1909 he opened his first UK store in Liverpool. At the height of the UK business there were more than 1,700 stores and more than 5,000 throughout the world.
In 1913 he commissioned the Woolworth building – the then tallest building in the world - which he paid for in cash! It sounds as if we are in for a very interesting talk about a retail empire before Amazon!

Our groups are now up and fully running and some are looking for new members or wish to remind old members to re-join.

Monday Ramblers Walking Group. We meet each week to explore the many walking opportunities of the Jalon Valley and surrounding area.   Walks range from 4-6 hours and all start within half an hour drive of Jalon.   They are suitable for anyone who is reasonably fit, and has some walking experience.   Each walk is restricted to a total of 16 members.   We usually have a couple of vacancies on each walk, so why not give it a try and see if you like it.  If you would like further details please contact them on their group page

There are also some exciting new groups about to start up.
1. Guitar lessons. A course for Beginners and Intermediates which sets out the way to achieve or enhance your capability on the guitar. As an old blues player once said, ‘You play from your heart , not the black blobs on a sheet of paper’. So, if you can´t read music, probably all the better – why not give it a go.
2.Let´s sing together...for fun.
Enjoy the pleasure of singing popular tunes that lift the spirit and make you feel good.
3. Spanish lessons
We have a new teacher, Carmen, who will be resuming with existing groups. However new members will be welcome.
4.Spanish Conversation
Weekly fun conversation lessons to help us put our skills into practise. Led by our tutor Kelly.
