Entertaining at Parkinson Centre

Recently the Let's Sing Together Group were delighted to be invited to one of the monthly meeting of the Parkinson Group, held at their venue in La Xara, and supported by Help of Marina Alta. After a brief introduction by Catherine, the Vice President of Help,  we began with songs including Sweet Caroline , Magic Moments,  Stand by Me and we finished with Annie's Song, a favourite  of the group.

Apparently Parkinson, can affect the voice box very badly and unless exercised many patients lose the ability to communicate with family and friends. One member kindly demonstrated the exercises that he had been given by the voice therapist at Denia hospital, using what looked like a bicycle inner tube. He was delighted to show the group what progress he had made in just a few weeks and encouraged others to get involved.
It was obvious to us how important these regular meetings are giving support and a helping hand to sufferers of this illness. Their next meeting will be a wine and cheese event with a difference, where everyone will be encouraged to talk about their lives, jobs and family, not an easy challenge for many.
We were thrilled to see the smiles on everyone's faces and certainly felt our visit was worthwhile. We look forward to our next visit, at Christmas time when we can include a few Christmas tunes and carols.

Meanwhile, the Ladies at Lunch group concluded their monthly outings on Tuesday, 28th June 2022 at the newly opened Courtyard Restaurant in Xaló. Thirty-five places were all set out ready, as we took our seats and made ourselves comfortable, staff were ready to take drink orders. We had a choice of three interesting and tasty starters, mains, and desserts with a glass of wine, still water and coffees included.
It seems incredible that we have now completed our first full year of Ladies at Lunch, and what was a random idea discussed over a coffee, has gone from strength to strength. We have loved supporting local restaurants, and appreciating the culinary delights, coupled with great company. What else could we wish for!
We’re taking a break during July and August but ‘We will be back to resume eating, drinking and chatting in September.
